Product Bite: Top Television Brands

A few weeks ago, we released an infographic about how to plan a television purchase. Hope the tips we provided were useful. Today, let’s look at some insights on the top television brands. These insights are a little bite out of our Televisions Product Category Report. Our analysis took shape around three main parameters – technology, features, and screen size. Plasma, LED/LCD, and OLED are classifications based on screen technology, while features can be based on resolution like 4K/Ultra HD/UHD, or 3D TVs, Smart TVs, and Curved Screen TVs.

LED/LCD televisions comprised 96% of the dataset pulled from the Indix Cloud Catalog, and that’s what we focused on for our report. According to our analysis, among the traditional brands, Samsung, LG, and Panasonic are the only ones still making plasma televisions. For the time being, OLED televisions are only made by LG. Statistics show that Samsung and LG dominate shipments for the LED/LCD market.

We dug into our dataset to cull out the top brands based on product count and see what kind of insights it revealed. Here are the top 25 brands on the online market.

A fun fact about Sunbrite: It’s the most expensive brand with an average price of $3,660. That’s because these TVs won’t let you down be it rain or sunshine. So you can lounge on your lawn chair with some beers and enjoy the football game outside. Of course, this is the price you pay for the luxury!

To dig even deeper, we did a price distribution analysis which uncovered deeper insights. You can see that all Sunbrite TVs sell for less than $5,000. Since they specialize exclusively in outdoor TVs, the price range is tightly packed. Brands like Samsung and LG, on the other hand, offer a much wider range and assortment of products, with some TVs costing more than $10,000. Yikes!
