There are some products that we take for granted and use everyday – for instance, the products in our bathroom or kitchen. In a kitchen, there are certain essentials that you must have on hand and replace regularly due to wear and tear. Business Insider compiled a list of kitchen equipment that is required for a smoothly running kitchen and making delicious home-cooked meals.
One of the items on the list is the humble colander. It’s one of those indispensable things that one needs to drain rice or pasta, or wash salad greens or fruits. I was curious to know the assortment out there for such a highly used item, so I did a keyword search in our Product Intelligence app. Instantly, I saw that there are almost 4000 colanders on the market sold across 109 stores and by 250 brands. It boggles the mind! Not to mention that one can drill down according to the function and type of the utensil required.
In addition to the major marketplace players like Amazon and Walmart, stores like Etsy, Rakuten, Wayfair, Sur La Table, Overstock, there are a lot of restaurant supply stores and others that also carry a range of colanders. Wouldn’t a merchandizing or brand manager love to have access to this kind of data?
Instead of performing a manual search, they can see in a pleasing visualized manner the kind of products that are flooding the market. Based on if they are a high-end boutique kitchen store or a restaurant supply store, they can check what brands are most popular and which stores are carrying them and what products from those brands are being stocked. That’s the value of assortment intelligence!
From the unassuming stainless steel to reinforced nylon to handmade ceramic, and from a fruit and vegetable colander, to a sieve, strainer, or spinner, there are several types of colanders out there serving various purposes. Here is a part of the assortment of pretty ceramic colanders sold on Etsy.
