Product Update: Indix Enhances Search by URL

We’re pleased to announce a significant improvement in our Search by URL functionality. Our customers have been using this for a couple of years now, and we’re excited to be rolling out this improvement to one of our most popular features.

At Indix, it is our mission to structure and organize the world’s product information. With over 800 million products in our database, we work with data of all shapes and sizes, which is why we can unequivocally say not all product URLs are created equal. Some are “scantily clad” while others are sumptuously clothed; some include only titles while others incorporate product specific identifiers (e.g., UPCs or MPNs).

With our improved Search by URL functionality, we have applied proprietary logic to normalize this unstructured data and enhance the ability for our customers to input a URL and retrieve the product from our catalog – no matter how well it’s clothed. While we have had this feature in our API for a while, our customers will now find it far more useful. Here are some additional improvements:

  • Significantly more URL coverage – customers can find vastly more products when they search by URL.
  • Enhanced ability to handle variant URLs. Many sites have different URLs for the same product; the Indix API can now handle these variants.

How to Use Search by URL

Search by product URL is available via any of our six search endpoints. These endpoints will return the appropriate product data in JSON format, as you can see below. The example below calls the Search Products – Summary API endpoint.

At times, the API will return more than one response. In this case, the system returns the most relevant result as the first product record.

If we are unable to match any products to the URL you submitted, you will receive a response with a product count of zero. If you do come across this occasional instance, which can happen with new sites or new products, let our Customer Success team know and we will make sure we have the data you require.
