Employee Spotlight: Thirulogachander M, Principal Data Analyst

Meet Thiru, our Principal Data Analyst, Customer Success. Working on building the world’s biggest Cloud Catalog of product information isn’t easy. In addition to world-class engineering and product teams, a stellar customer success team is critical. Thiru is one of our stars, deeply committed to making data work for specific customer requests. He enjoys Tamil literature almost as much as digging into troves of data. We love having him on the team, and sat down to learn more about him and his work.

What project are you working on currently? What excites you the most about it?
I’m a part of the customer success team and I get to work on a whole bunch of exciting projects. Every customer or prospect comes to Indix with a unique requirement and getting the best out of the Indix platform to serve customer expectations is something that keeps me motivated and on my toes. As I need to work out something new in every customer request, my mind stays fresh all the time and I’m pumped to solve the problems that come my way.

What is the most rewarding part of being on your team?
I get to work with a bunch of multi-talented people on my team. Each person I work with has their own specialty and I have a lesson or two to learn from them. The team brims with loads of energy all the time and I am challenged to push beyond my limits on a regular basis. An impeccable commitment to customer delight as a guiding principle is the vision leading this high energy team, and I’m delighted to be a part of it. There’s never a day when I have not learned something new at work.

What drives you to come to work in the morning?
Having been a data freak all my life, I love to play with tons and tons of data. Owing to the nature of my work, I get to scratch my grey matter throughout the day crunching humongous volumes of data sets and serving customer requests. The mere thought of solving a customer’s problems day in and day out is something that keeps me going. Every problem I get to solve is unique and different, and there is no set pattern which makes it even more interesting and takes away the predictability element which is the first stage of boredom.

What’s the most exciting and challenging part of working for a startup?
Startups usually have small teams that are cohesively knit by values that everyone shares in common. I love the autonomy I enjoy at work and the trust my team places in me. I’m encouraged to take risks and deliver value to customers and there aren’t any blockers. Being at a startup helps one realize the value they deliver to the organization relatively easily due to the size of the team. It makes me happy to see that my work adds value to customer needs.

What inspires you about the vision and mission of Indix?
Building the world’s largest and deepest product Cloud Catalog is a really big deal, and I’m excited to be a player contributing to this bold vision and mission. I’m in awe of the sheer scale of data we have coupled with the advances in shopping technology, knowing that we’re moving to a world where machines would make product choices and decide the buying schedule for consumers etc. I couldn’t ask for anything more in this path-breaking journey.

What does a typical work day look like for you?
I start the day with going through my inbox which is filled with various data requests for customer and prospects. Each of these requests has a priority tag attached to it. I start clearing the requests by doing a deep dive into the Indix platform and cranking out data for my analysis. There is a bunch of tools I use for this purpose and I collate the results and share them with my team and customers. I love the daily stand-up meetings with my team as that gives me a good sense of what lies ahead in the day. Owing to the nature of the work, I get to interact with a lot of cross-functional teams like engineering and product management which enriches my learning every day.

How do you balance your work and personal life? What do you do for fun?
I’m an avid fan of Tamil literature and I love to read. It take me to a different world and I’m lost in that world during my free time. Reading energizes me and I thoroughly cherish every second. Apart from that, I enjoy playing with my kid and watching movies.
