Meet Dinesh Krishnamurthi, a Product Manager at Indix. He’s a multi-tasker and passionate about product development. You can read his blog posts about gathering and ingesting product data from the web here. Quiet and resolved, we love having Dinesh on the team, and sat down to learn more about him and his work.
What project are you working on currently? What excites you the most about it?
There are multiple project ideas across different teams that I am working on scoping and prioritizing right now. For instance, (i) building a generic search-based crawl platform, and (ii) extracting product attributes from product titles and descriptions as key-value pairs, and iii) improving product search as an offering are some of the very important and exciting problem areas we are trying to crack.
What is the most rewarding part of being on your team?
Trying to solve some of the biggest customer pain points and figuring out the long-term opportunities in the product data space by experimenting, talking to individuals, and getting to develop a strong knowledge base are some of the most rewarding aspects of working in the product management team at Indix.
What drives you to come to work in the morning?
Working with, learning from, and being challenged everyday by a group of highly focused individuals equally motivated towards working on solving some of the hardest problem areas in the product data space.
What’s the most exciting and challenging part of working for a startup?
I love the unique challenges that I face at work everyday. Being at a startup offers new learning opportunities on a regular basis and I cherish every single one. I get to own key components end to end and there is a great sense of satisfaction in owning and delivering value to the organization as a whole. I’m constantly encouraged to take risks and I have learnt the key lesson of not fearing failure. To fail is fine, but not trying is very detrimental to one’s growth.
What inspires you about the vision and mission of Indix?
At Indix, we are trying to build the broadest and deepest collection of product data in the world. We use cutting edge ML techniques to classify products, extract product attributes, match products across stores, and we have also built our own product taxonomy which is constantly evolving. In short, Indix wants to be everything about products, and that’s very inspiring.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
My day is loaded with meetings. Owing to my role, I work closely with a bunch of stakeholders across the organization like engineering, customer success, sales, and marketing. Apart from the regular stand-ups with my team, I spend a good amount of time with engineering folks talking about the product road map, prioritization, and delivery. I love to take breaks and am an avid ping pong enthusiast. Whenever I find some free time, you can see me at the ping pong table.
How do you balance your work and personal life? What do you do for fun?
The secret to having a good work-life balance is not losing interest in things that excite you, and somehow finding time for things outside of work. I love reading and try to find an hour or two everyday to read a book of my choice. During work hours, I sneak away for a game of ping pong whenever time permits. I am also a huge sports fan and follow Manchester United. All these things keep me rejuvenated and help me to contribute a 110% at work.
