What is your role at Indix?

My role is mainly focused on top of the funnel marketing activity – creating engaging content for different platforms like our blog, social media channels, and other publications. I also research industry trends as it’s crucial to what we do here at Indix that we are up to speed on all the ways that commerce is changing. One of my long term goals is to foster relationships with influencers who believe in our vision.

What did you do before Indix?

I was an academic pursuing my Ph.D. in cinema and media studies at the University of Washington. Primarily, I was teaching writing, film history and analysis, and also doing my own research and producing scholarly material.

Why did you join Indix?

I was looking to shake things up! I really love the research, critical analysis, and writing elements of academia, but I wanted to leverage those skills in a different, more dynamic atmosphere. Also, meeting with the Seattle Indix team was my best interview experience ever! It was very motivating to think of working with this bunch of committed and passionate people. I knew it would keep me on my toes and help me better myself every day.

What have you learned working for a startup?

That there’s always something to do! It’s tough but exciting and challenging. As an academic, the startup environment is ideal given the scope for learning and innovation. The best part though is certainly the fact that it is a very horizontal, collaborative space, and everyone is driven by passion more than anything else. There is no time to be complacent and good ideas are always welcomed.

What technologies or trends get you most excited?

Anything that enhances our everyday living experience. I never anticipated the way that smartphones were going to change the way we communicate, look for information, and connect with our surroundings. It continues to blow my mind whenever I think about it!

What do you do for fun?

I’m a homebody so if I’m not working, I’m usually at home enjoying a movie or an awesome meal with my husband, or curled up with my cat and a book. But I do love to work out and nothing releases the endorphins more than Zumba fitness dancing.

What is your favorite technology product?

My Nokia Lumia Windows Phone. The user interface is great. I love that it keeps me connected with my family, friends, NPR, The New York Times, and Pandora, all in the same device!

How would your friends describe you?

“Fiercely loyal. Honest. Loves good food. Can’t resist sweets. Slightly obsessive compulsive. She is always cleaning!”
